Six months ago today Israeli forces killed Mahmoud Shaalan while he was preparing to cross a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.

Mahmoud was a 16-year-old Arab American student born and raised in Florida. While attending school in his family’s ancestral village in Palestine, Mahmoud was shot in the back by Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint near the Beit El settlement in the occupied West Bank. Israeli soldiers stripped his body, left him bleeding on the road for more than two hours, and prevented an ambulance from taking him to a hospital.

Six months ago today Israeli forces killed Mahmoud Shaalan while he was preparing to cross a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.

Mahmoud was a 16-year-old Arab American student born and raised in Florida. While attending school in his family’s ancestral village in Palestine, Mahmoud was shot in the back by Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint near the Beit El settlement in the occupied West Bank. Israeli soldiers stripped his body, left him bleeding on the road for more than two hours, and prevented an ambulance from taking him to a hospital.

The circumstances surrounding Mahmoud’s death remain unclear, but conditions suggest he was unlawfully killed by Israeli forces using unjustified and intentionally lethal force. To date, the U.S. government has not condemned the killing of one of its citizens, nor has it called for a transparent and fair investigation into Mahmoud’s tragic death.

Mahmoud’s family deserves to know what happened to their beloved son.

Mahmoud is an American and it is time for his government to demand an investigation into his death.

Dear Mr. President,
 
I am writing to urge your administration to investigate the fatal shooting of U.S. citizen Mahmoud Shaalan that took place 6 months ago in the occupied West Bank.
 
On February 26, 2016, Mahmoud, a 16-year-old Palestinian-American boy born and raised in Florida, was shot by Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint near the Beit El settlement in the occupied West Bank. After he was shot, soldiers stripped Mahmoud’s body and left him bleeding on the road for more than two hours, even preventing a Palestinian ambulance from approaching or intervening.
 
It has been six months since Mahmoud Shaalan was killed, and your administration has not condemned the killing or even called for an investigation into his death. The Israeli government has not released information on any investigation, and there is reason to believe Mahmoud was unlawfully killed with unjustified and intentionally lethal force.
 
The United States has an obligation to speak about Mahmoud's case, and to press the Israeli government to conduct a thorough, transparent, and fair investigation.
  
Mr. President, please call for an investigation into the killing of Mahmoud Shaalan.
